Yugioh! has introduced it’s players to all kinds of interesting and unique monsters and mechanics – Fusion, Ritual, Xyz, Link, and Synchro! These Extra Deck monsters feature a glistening while border, and some of the most powerful monsters in the game belong to this card type. There are many archetypes that use and even focus on Synchro Monsters, and there are tons of other Synchro Monsters that can fit into all different kinds of deck! In this article, you will learn what a Synchro Monster is, and how to Synchro Summon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Synchro MOnsters<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Synchro Monsters are Extra Deck monsters, like Fusion or Link Monsters. And, like other Extra Deck monsters, they use a unique summoning mechanic. What is a Synchro Monster? A Synchro Monster is a powerful monster that can be Special Summoned from the Extra Deck by using monsters you control, with at least one of those monsters being a Tuner. A Tuner is a special monster subtype or category created exclusively for Synchro Summoning. Some Synchro Monsters require different amounts of Tuners and non-Tuner, and those requirements are listed under their monster Type. Most Synchro Monsters only require one Tuner and one non-Tuner, but others require multiple Tuners or non-Tuners, and there are still others that require all Tuners! Magical Android<\/a><\/strong>, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity<\/a><\/strong>, and Kewl Tuner Track Maker<\/strong> are all examples of Synchro Monsters that require different amounts of Tuners and non-Tuners. Synchro Monsters have a variety of effects and can be used to accomplish many different goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Synchro Summoning<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n

So, how do you Synchro Summon? To perform a Synchro Summon, you must have it’s required materials on your Field. Some Synchro Monsters required a specific Tuner, like Revived King Ha Des<\/a><\/strong>, but most Synchro Monsters only require any Tuner, regardless of it’s name. Some Synchro Monsters may have other restrictions, such as using materials of only a certain Attribute, like Naturia Leodrake<\/a><\/strong>; or material of a specific Type, like Arcanite Magician<\/a><\/strong>. Other Synchro Monsters may even require other Synchro Monsters as material, like Shooting Star Dragon<\/a><\/strong>. Let’s use Black-Winged Dragon<\/a><\/strong> for an example. To Synchro Summon Black-Winged Dragon<\/a><\/strong>, 1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuners are required. You will need one Tuner on your Field, let’s use Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind<\/a><\/strong>. Now, Gale is Level 3. To Synchro Summon, you will need materials whose combined levels equal the Level of the Synchro Monster. Black-Winged Dragon<\/a><\/strong> is Level 8. So, when using Gale as a Tuner, you will need other non-Tuners with Levels that add up to 5. Let’s use Blackwing – Hillen the Tengu-wind<\/a><\/strong>, a Level 5 monster. With these two monsters on your Field, you can then send them to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Black-Winged Dragon<\/a><\/strong>! Since Xyz and Link monsters do not have a Level, they cannot be used as material for a Synchro Summon (unless otherwise stated). A Tuner is used to “tune” into a Synchro frequency with other monsters and bring out these mighty monsters!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternative Methods<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n

There are some exceptions to the normal Synchro Summoning mechanic. Some cards like Formula Synchron<\/a><\/strong> or Bixi Water of the Yang Zing<\/a><\/strong> allow you to perform a Synchro Summon during your opponent’s turn. There are even some Tuner Monsters like Tatsunoko<\/a><\/strong>, Tatsunecro<\/a><\/strong>, and Malefic Parallel Gear<\/a><\/strong> let you use non-Tuner monsters in your hand for a Synchro Summon. The Kewl Tune archetype is unique in that its Synchro Monsters use only Tuners for their Synchro Summon. Another unique Synchro archetype is Ursarctic. These unique monsters Synchro Summon themselves not by adding Levels together, but by using a Level difference instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
