How To Play
Welcome to my Umi Control Deck for 2023! Ever wanted to feel like Mako Tsunami and conquer the treacherous seas and its powerful abyssal creatures? Fear not, because I’ve got you covered!
The main card of this deck is, unarguably, A Legendary Ocean, the pinnacle of the deck that allows you to use its most crucial monster effects. If you don’t draw into this card by either your first hand or Pot of Prosperity, you easily acquire it by searching through Fish Sonar for Warrior of Atlantis (or having them in hand) and searching Ocean from the deck.
Once you have that card, reducing all WATER monsters in both players’ hands and on the field by 1, you’re able to summon your boss monster Ocean Dragon Lord – Kairyu-Shin. With his effect, you’ll most likely want to add either Sea Stealth II (for plays before the Battle Phase and monster-effect protection) or Sea Stealth Attack (for Spelll/Trap protection by banishing one WATER monster you control, don’t worry, it comes back).
Electric Jellyfish is an excellent summon before Kairyu and a fantastic card in general. If your opponent activates a Spell Card or effect on the field, you can negate it and make Jellyfish gain 600 ATK. It can send a “Umi” to the GY and Special Summon 1 WATER monster from your hand. You’ll usually want to go and Special Summon Abyss Shark, Infernalqueen Salmon, or Dream Shark for various Lvl 4 XYZ plays.
That’s it for the main plays. Pretty simple, right?
Additional Deck info
You can send Mega Fortress Whale to the GY via Foolish Burial Goods to Special it during your opponent’s Battle Phase through the effect of Sea Stealth II to destroy one of their monsters. If it’s ever destroyed by effect or battle, you’d typically want to summon General Raiho of the Ice Barrier so they’ll have a harder time during their Main Phase 2. However, the card should be on the field whenever you have the chance.
You can also use Foolish Burial Goods to send Ice Barrier to the GY. Through their effect, you can send a Lvl 5 or higher WATER monster from your deck to the GY, then add 1 WATER monster from the GY to your hand. Pretty great hand as you’re able to get either Ocean Dragon Lord – Kairyu-Shin, General Raiho of the Ice Barrier. or Infernalqueen Salmon for free.
Elemental HERO Blazeman is an easy fusion summon into Elemental HERO Absolute Zero because your deck is full of WATER monsters. All your opponent’s monsters are destroyed if it ever leaves the field. This card, paired with Sea Stealth Attack, means you’ll have infinite times for their board to be broken on either your and/or their turn.
One of the easiest Lvl 4 XYZs to go into is Bahamut Shark, then use its effect to Special Summon Toadally Awesome. Even Number 4: Stealth Kragen is a great pick as your opponent will, most likely, only be able to afford one monster on the field with the help of Ocean Dragon Lord – Kairyu-Shin.
