Archetype

Icejade is an archetype from the Albaz lore that didn’t see much play. Mostly due to its under power compared with other decks like Branded and Spright. A control deck with a slow yet effective set up that got better with its recent support. Even though it can compete to an extent, it’s a deck recommended for a fun, casual play.

Icejades are the creatures that coexist with the Swordsouls in the lore. They provide guidance and heal Fleurdelis from her wounds, allowing her to go back and fight the Despia. They also allow Fallen of Albaz is able to transform into Mirrorjade thanks to their power. Although they are not warriors, they surely can put up a fight.

Playstyle

As mentioned before, this is a control deck. It locks your opponent from activating monster effects thanks to Icejade Kosmochlor and Icejade Curse. The first one only allows their monsters to activate their effects the turn they are summoned and the second the other way around. A little confusing, but basically, once on the field they cannot activate monster effects. The key component for this floodgate is Icejade Cenote Enion Cradle since both effects are active only when this card is on the field. Another option is with Icejade Ran Aegirine while equipped with a card so it gains the field spell’s name.

Icejade Aegirine and Icejade Cradle are the main searchers. Your main goal is to get to the field spell and Kosmochlor as fast as you can. Icejade curse might sound better, but Kosmochlor and the field spell provide protection to your monsters by reducing the attack of opponent monsters. Icejade Tremora helps you special summon aqua monsters from your hand discarding her to the GY, and also from grave when your aqua monsters are destroyed.

It’s fairly easy to protect your monsters, but not your spells. Thankfully Icejade Erosion helps to negate any face up card on the field and also allows more summons when it’s destroyed.

Some Outside Support

Combinations with Deep Sea provide the deck more consistency. Deep Sea Diva allows to summon Guitar Gurnards Duonigis to banish cards from your opponent’s deck. The next step is to synchro summon into Deep Sea Prima Donna using Guitar’s ability to increase Diva’s level. Prima Donna returns one of you opponent’s banished cards to their hand in exchange to summon Aegirine from your deck. This might sound bad at first and honestly, sometimes it is depending on the options. However if you are able to set up your board and give him a monster he won’t be able to use, what does it matter anyway?

Pot of Prosperity boosts the consistency even further. Requiring only a few pieces from the extra deck, you can banish some with no concern, plus you can shuffle some back with Prima Donna if you need to. You can also recycle your monsters constantly with Baronne de Fleur and keep summoning it over and over while still controlling the board.

Weakness

The deck needs the GY to preform fully and also requires many cards to fully set up. Even though it can be achieved, sometimes it requires specific hands to do so. It also lacks strong removals or means to play around interruptions effectively. However, once the board is built it causes a lot of trouble to combo decks. Against other control decks it doesn’t do too well since it’s only great controlling monsters. Therefore, the grind game becomes tougher with decks like Labyrinth.
