Edison Format Off-Topic Retro Formats TCG Uncategorized Yugioh

Each era of Yugioh! is marked by changes in the meta, when one or more decks prove to be top performers in a format. But, there are always a few cards that stan out and continue to show up in a majority of decks no matter what archetype is chosen. These cards often stand the test of time and continue to see play year after year, format after format. These cards are often called “staples.”

What is a Staple?

A staple is any card that is generally always played in a deck, usually because its effect is too good to pass up or it is essential for a deck to reach its full potential. There are many generic staples for all formats of Yugioh! Cards like Solemn Judgement, Mystical Space Typhoon, Foolish Burial, and handtraps like Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring and Nibiru the Primal Being have been considered staples for many years. Sometimes staples fade out of favor, but they often return again, others have remained staples since their release.
