Banlist Dueling Nexus Genesys Format Off-Topic Uncategorized Yugioh

Yugioh! has been marked by several different formats over the years. These alternative formats offer platers a different way to play the game from the standard TCG/OCG. And, one of the newest official formats is Genesys! This format is unique because, instead of the typical banlist, Genesys uses a point system. Let’s take a closer look at the Genesys point system.

Banlist vs. Points

The biggest feature that sets Genesys apart from other Yugioh! formats is its point system. This method of assigning points to cards instead of limiting, semi-limiting, or banning them, allows players to access some card and combos that are disallowed in the standard TCG/OCG. Without a banlist, this means that players can use cards that have historically been restricted or outright banned for years like Pot of Greed, Block Dragon, and Red Reboot. However, using these cards will cost you!

Here is an example (points are subject to change):

Point Allocation

Official Genesys uses a point system for all cards, and a deck cannot exceed 100 points. This is the standard, but some tournaments or events may adjust this point max. But, the standard is 100. Now, the vast majority of cards are 0 points, but many others have points. Keep in mind that this 100 point cap applies to both your Main Deck AND Side Deck combined. So, for example, Pot of Greed is 30 Points. So, you can run three copies of it, if you want, but it will cost you 90 points total, leaving you with only 10 points to spare.

The allocation of points in Genesys is intended to balance the game, but also encourage creativity. It allows players to access powerful cards and combos, but it comes at a cost. So, while players can use historically banned or limited cards, the options for what they can be used with are restricted.
