One of the most feared classic Yugioh! monsters any of Yugi and his friends ever faced. Dark Necrofear. This queen of doom and gloom is a formidable foe. And when paired with Destiny Board in the hands of a skilled duelist, she can – quite literally – spell death for your opponents. Let’s take a look at this dark queen’s connection with death an fear and embrace destiny with Dark Necrofear and the Destiny Board.

Fear the Darkness
Necrofear is why you should be afraid of the dark! She is an old-school Yugioh! monster that cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. She must first be Special Summoned from your Hand by banishing 3 Fiend-type monsters from your GY. And that’s not all. During your End Phase, if Necrofear is in your GY because it was destroyed by your opponent’s card – by battle or effect – she can claim one of your opponent’s monsters as her own puppet by equipping herself to your chosen opponent monster, giving you control of it. A real nightmare for your enemy!
The queen of fear was a difficult card to deal with back in the day, because even if your opponent could attack over it or destroy it with a card effect, she would come back to haunt your opponent and steal their monster. She became iconic when used by Bakura in the manga and anime. And though she is a standalone monster, she has always been bound to Destiny Board, as you will see.
FINAL / DEATH
Now, Destiny Board is another classic set of cards that comes with it’s own alternate win condition. The theme of DB is the occult Ouija board that is said to be a tool used to communicate with ghosts and spirits. The board in this case is the main Trap Card itself. During each of your turns, the Trap allows you to activate a “Spirit Message” Spell Card. Once you control DB and the other 4 Spirit Message cards, you win the duel! In the OCG, these cards spell out DEATH, while in the TCG they spell FINAL. But how is Necrofear connected?
In the OCG art for Destiny Board, you can see Necrofear’s hand on the Planchette, spelling out the final word: DEATH! She is also prominently featured on Sentence of Doom using the Ouija board. Then, to strengthen the connection even further, Necrofear is also shown in the art of Dark Spirit’s Mastery, a card that interacts with DB and the Spirit Message letters. When examining these pieces together with other cards, we start to see the connection.

Queen of the Fiends
Our first hint at just how powerful Necrofear is comes from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Guide and the anime. The Master Guide states that Necrofear is the Queen of all Fiend-type monsters. And in the anime, when Bakura summoned her, he says that she is the Queen of the World of the Dead. And her name literally means “fear death.” From what we know, and what we can put together from card arts, it is clear that Necrofear is a powerful queen with great power over Fiends and death. She reigns from her Dark Sanctuary and commands several Dark Spirits as her minions: Dark Spirit of the Silent, Dark Spirit of Banishment, and Dark Spirit of Malice. A skilled duelist familiar with the Shadow Realm can use the dark powers of the DB to reach out to Necrofear and destroy their opponent. Which is exactly what Yami Bakura attempted to do.
Give these cards a try in your next deck… if you dare!
