Yugioh! Genesys is an exciting dueling format with an ever-changing meta, and a massive rogue deck gallery. Unlike the main TCG and OCG, Genesys does not use a banlist. Instead, it uses a point system. Each card has a point value, and a deck can only contain so many points. Let’s take a closer look at the Genesys point system and how the format works!
Genesys Format
Yugioh! Genesys is a little different from the mainline TCG/OCG. As mentioned above, Genesys does not use a banlist. Instead, each card is assigned a point value and a legal deck can only contain so many points. Additionally, Pendulum and Link Monsters are not allowed. These differences make deck building a unique experience. The point system also leaves plenty of room for rogue decks to perform well, as many meta archetypes and cards have higher point values than other non-meta decks. And, with no banlist, that means cards that are banned in the TCG can be used. Cards like Pot of Greed, Cyber-Stein, and Baronne de Fleur are legal options, but they are heavily pointed, so they will cost you!
Point System
Genesys uses a point system rather than a banlist. Most cards are set a 0 points, but some cards can cost up to 100! The standard point cap for a deck is 100. Some events or game modes may change this at their discretion, however. This point cap includes your Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck combined. Many hand traps and generic staples, like Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring or Dominus Spark, are pointed. This forces players to really think hard about how they spend their points. It is a fun, fresh way to play Yugioh!
