by Synchro Summoning is a unique mechanic in Yugioh!, and since its introduction in 2008, this form of summoning has remained massively popular! Some of the game’s coolest Extra Deck monsters are Synchro Monsters. But Synchro Monsters would be nothing without their Tuners. Let’s take a look at some of the best Yugioh Tuner monsters!
What is a Tuner?
Firstly, what is a Tuner? Simply put, a Tuner is a special monster that allows you to Synchro Summon. “Tuner” is a monster Ability, like Toon, Gemini, or Union. These monsters are required to perform a Synchro Summon – at least most of the time. If you look at a Synchro Monster’s requirements for summon, you will notice that they require 1 or more Tuner monsters plus 1 or more non-Tuner monsters. Sometimes these materials are generic, sometimes possessing a specific Type or Attribute, and sometimes even requiring a specific monster by name. Look at Stardust Dragon, Naturia Landoise, or Revived King Ha Des as examples. As you can see, the right Tuner can make all the difference!
Best Tuners
When it comes to Tuners, there are all kinds. From vanilla, Normal monsters to hand traps, to even Extra Deck monsters and Synchro Monsters themselves, there is no shortage of different types of Tuners. Choosing the right one can make or break your deck. Some Tuners are valuable because they can Special Summon themselves. Others enable you to use them from locations other than the Field, like the GY or even the Hand. Some can be searched, some can be revived, and some can even be used a non-Tuners in a pinch. They can be used as part of a Synchro strategy, or be teched in as a utility option.
Now, what makes a Tuner “good” or the “best” can be up to interpretation. Certainly there are some Tuners that outperform and outshine their peers. But, it really comes down to your deck and your strategy. Below is a list of some the Yugioh!’s best, most popular Tuner monsters based on their effects, usefulness, and overall function.
