DoomZ is a deck which first released in Doom of Dimensions, as the second deck of the Medius the Pure lore. On release, the deck suffered from the fact that it had no gameplan. DoomZ would then become playable in Genesys Format when that released, if you are unfamiliar with Genesys you can read about it here. Recently, DoomZ got some very excellent support in Blazing Dominion which introduced the new Power Patron cards, but most importantly, a coherent gameplan for the deck.
Overview
DoomZ is a combo deck focused on summoning XYZ monsters, gaining advantage when its cards are destroyed, and equip spells. This leaves you with a very potent going first combo deck with little non-engine. However, it compensates for this lack of non-engine by the fact that it can also play into endboards really well. the new Power Patron cards can threaten an early Varudras forcing a response from the opponent early. Furthermore, DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” can equip itself to an opponent’s monster threatening to pop it and summon back a DoomZ name to keep playing. Being able to break boards with engine going second, having a strong endboard on turn 1, and being able to play graveyard disruption has positioned DoomZ to be a potent threat in the Blazing Dominion format.
Important Cards
Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron

Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron is a new piece of support for the whole Medius the Pure lore, and it came out in Blazing Dominion. Like the other Power Patrons it came out it, except Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity, it is designed specifically to help one of the Medius decks. Jupredo is DoomZ’s best Power Patron monster because all of its three effects always help you. The pendulum scale effect lets it destroy itself and a “DoomZ” monster in your hand or face-up field, and then optionally pop a card on the field. Many of your DoomZ effects trigger when they are destroyed, allowing this card to help you break boards, fix your hand, AND get your engine going. This makes this effect a 3-in-1 in its best case scenario. The first monster effect this card has is by far its weakest. It banishes the top three cards of your deck, face down, destroys itself, and then summons Jupiter the Power Patron of Destruction giving you the option to attach a card from your hand to it. However, this isn’t even that bad of an effect, as Jupiter lets you revive a DoomZ monster, letting you extend your plays. Now, the third, and best effect, of this card is that when it is sent to the face-up extra deck, it searches the deck for a “Power Patron” or “DoomZ” spell or trap. Having all three of these extremely powerful effects makes the card a very good push going second or into hand traps providing the deck with more resilience.
DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea”

DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea came out with the first wave of DoomZ, in Doom of Dimension. It has the effect to destroy a DoomZ card you control, and then summon itself and equip itself with an equip spell. This is a useful effect as it provides you with a body you can destroy for a future DoomZ effect. It can also equip itself with any equip spell, though it usually picks DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G.” if DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” hasn’t been used yet. D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G. lets Drastea destroy another one of your cards, which can trigger them. The main example of this is using this effect to destroy DoomZ Raiders on the opponent’s turn, and then using Raiders’s effect to destroy a monster the opponenent controls. However, the better effect only works if Drastea has an equip spell equipped. This effect allows Drastea to special summon a Rank 8 Wind Machine Xyz monster. In simple terms, this effect summons DoomZ XII End – Drastrius on the opponent’s turn which is multiple point of interaction by itself. First, it still has the interaction between D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G. and Raiders that I explained earlier. Second, it can equip an opponent’s monster to itself when it’s summoned. Third, it is a monster negate, making it a powerful card. By virtue of being the way you get into this endboard piece and an important part of the combo, Drastea becomes one of the most important cards in the deck.
DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio

DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio is a Rank 5 Xyz Monster that came out in Blazing Dominion. At first, this may seem weird, DoomZ doesn’t have any level five monsters in the deck, so how do you summon this card? Simple, with its alternate summoning condition, you can Xyz summon Graflareio by using one DoomZ Xyz monster and transferring materials. This card has two effects that activate when its on the field. The first effect lets you detach a material and add a DoomZ spell to your hand, then you can optionally destroy a card on the field. Usually, you would add Raiders with Graflareio. Then you activate Raiders and destroy Graflareio to summon a DoomZ monster and then activate Graflareio’s second effect. When it is destroyed, you can special summon a non-Xyz Doom-Z monster from the deck or GY which includes Jupredo. Graflareio is a very good card in the deck because of its value as a combo piece, it searches more engine for the combo, and it can summon Jupredo allowing you to use the very powerful Power Patron cards.
Pros
- Strong endboard
- Good going second
- Plays through hand traps well
- Skill expressive
- Very consistent
- Good endboards under Mulcharmy Fuwalos
Cons
- Struggles into Droll & Lock Bird
- Weak to board breakers such as Super Polymerization
- Has a few clear chokepoints
- Reliant on drawing engine-heavy hands
- Not a lot of non-engine room
Sample Combo
Most combos deviate at the beginning but merge when you summon Graflareio. Here is a sample combo using DoomZ VII Seven – Elara and a random discard:
- Normal summon Elara
- Use Elara’s effect to set A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.
- Activate A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A. and equip it to Elara
- Use Elara’s effect to summon DoomZ Break – Diactorus using itself and A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A. as material
- Summon Graflareio using Diactorus as material
- Use Graflareio’s effect to search Raiders
- Make sure you detach A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A. to play around handtraps
- Activate Raiders and destroy Graflareio to summon DoomZ V Five – Amalthe
- Chain Link 1 Amalthe to add Drastea, Chain Link 2 Graflareio to summon Jupredo
- Activate A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.’s GY effect and equip itself to Jupredo
- Use A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.’s effect to destroy Jupredo and summon Elara from the GY
- Activate Jupredo’s effect to search Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus
- Use Elara and Amalthe as material to make Springans Merrymaker
- Summon Gigantic “Champion” Sargas on top of Merrymaker
- Use Sargas to add Therion “King” Regulus
- Use Regulus’s effect to summon itself, you can equip either of the Xyz monsters
- Activate Terminus by sending the Jupredo from your face-up extra deck and add Vidolium
- Place Vidolium in the Pendulum Scale
- Activate Vidolium’s effect to summon back Jupredo from the GY
- Activate Vidolium’s effect to search Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia
- Activate Vidolia and use its effect to summon another copy of Jupredo by revealing Jupiter, you need to banish a card from your hand for this effect
- Use both copies of Jupredo to summon Varudras
- Use Drastea’s hand effect to pop the card equipped to Regulus and equip D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G. to it
Notes
- To play around Super Polymerization you can use Drastea’s effect to summon Drastius. This makes you better into Super Poly but weakens your endboard by a bit
- This is 5-6 points of interaction as well as follow-up which is more than enough considering the fact that the deck is good into non-engine.
- You can search DoomZ Destruction if you open more than just one starter.

Sample Decklist
Here is a sample DoomZ decklist for the Blazing Dominion format:
Alternate Options
Instead of playing the Regulus package (Merrymaker, Sargas, Regulus), you can instead play a Number F0: Utopic Draco Future package. This package consists of running Gagagaga Magician, Number F0: Utopic Future, and Utopic Draco Future (UDF). This package has the advantage of not needing you to play a brick in your main deck. Furthermore, it doesn’t make your endboard any weaker, as with both packages you still have a negate. However, the UDF package has one major drawback, that being its increased extra deck room. This means that you aren’t able to play as many utility options in your extra deck (Clockwork Knight, Super Polymerization targets, etc.). Furthermore, by having the negate be in the extra deck, it forces you to commit to summoning it if you want to, meanwhile if you draw Regulus you can summon it very early and be insulated for the whole combo. I am not a fan of having to deal with these drawbacks, which is why I choose to paly the Regulus package, even though both options are viable.
Another option that is available is playing an increased Power Patron package with cards such as Nervedo the Shadebeast Power Patron and Junoldo the Shadespirit Power Patron. The main appeal of this package is that it lets you summon Varudras very early on, which makes you more insulated from interaction when you combo. However, this package is not worth playing because it forces you to play a lot more bricks, for a very small ceiling increase. Furthermore, to summon Varudras early, you will need to play Nerva the Power Patron of Creation and Junora the Power Patron of Tuning, which runs into the same issue as the UDF package.
You can also play Medius the Pure in this deck to summon Jupredo from the deck. This gives you another starter and more access to Jupredo which seems great on the surface. However, this package has the issue that you have to play another normal summon, which isn’t recommended because you already have six normal summons. Another flaw that Medius has is that it plays into both Fuwalos and Droll. This leads me to not playing Medius, however, it is definitely still a viable pick.
Conclusion
DoomZ, and the Blazing Dominion format, are both still being explored, and learned about. Due to this fact, DoomZ deckbuilding will always be changing, going from non-engine heavy builds to very engine heavy builds. This is to say that DoomZ is a deck with a lot of variety in its deckbuilding, and it’s important for you to build the deck in a way that you will enjoy playing it the most. However, in the current state of the Blazing Dominion, DoomZ is a top five deck in terms of power, being able to compete with Kewl Tune, Branded, and the likes.
As of publishing this article, DoomZ top 3 in terms of tops this format, and is far ahead of fourth place. Whether you’re planning to play in a regional, tournament, YCS, locals, or even a tournament hosting on the Dueling Nexus Discord server, DoomZ is a deck worth looking into.
