How To Play
Welcome to my Mikanko Competitive Deck Profile for 2023! As the saying goes, big things come in small packages, and these descendants of the all-powerful Ohime the Manifested Mikanko are no exception. This is, by far, my favorite deck this year, and I’ve won countless local and online tournaments using this incredible engine. And today, I’ll be giving you the tools necessary to perform incredible OTKs on your opponent’s second turn that will leave them devastated.
When I’m playing “Mikankos,” I’ve learned that you must have the mindset of, ‘How can I end this match in on my turn?’ This will help considerably since most of your hands (at least while playing this deck) will help you achieve this as long as you play smart and think ahead.
Most decks nowadays, if not all you’ll be facing with Mikanko, will be attempting to make an end-board of negates, counters, etc., that will inhibit you from playing. Your main prerogative is to be keen and precise in what you do and how you do it, and if you pull off the right move(s), you will end with an opponent’s broken board and deal a considerable amount of damage.
Let’s start with your best friend, Ha-Re the Sword Mikanko. Though this deck doesn’t technically have a “starter” (since you’ll have to be flexible with your approaches as stated above), you’ll most likely use her for the various plays you can make. Ha-Re can add any Mikanko spell from the Deck to your hand when she’s equipped with an Equip Spell. While she can be a good starter, once you get accustomed to the deck, you’ll notice that you’ll use her after breaking your opponent’s board or as a fake-out for any of your other cards.
Next, we have Ni-Ni the Mirror Mikanko, and Hu-Li the Jewel Mikanko. Both of these descendants are usually used as “end-board” components (especially Ni-Ni as her effect is useless on your turn); However, Hu-Li, especially in this format, is one of the main Mikankos you should try to get on your field depending on your match up. When equipped, Ni-Ni can grab an opponent’s monster on their turn, and Hu-Li, once equipped, can add 1 “Mikanko” Trap from your Deck to the hand. She also makes all “Mikanko” cards unforgettable. Decks like Kashtira and Runick are no match when Hu-Li is on the field, along with various S/Ts and Extra Deck monsters. Because of this, you’ll usually see a lot of people end on Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder just to send it to the grave.
Since this is a competitive decklist, I won’t go into the specifics of each Equip Card as I have a decklist here that explains them more thoroughly; I do vouch (as most Mikankos decks do anyway) for three Mikanko Water Arabesque, two Mikanko Dance – Mayowashidori, and another two Mikanko Fire Dance. Arabesque is a great card to draw on and can sometimes leave your opponent with no choice but to use their monster’s eff if it’s going to be sent back to the hand or Extra. Mayowashidori is another great card as it doesn’t really on destruction and simply returns it to the hand, which in some cases, is even worse for your opponent (and can benefit you sometimes as well, as it doesn’t have to target opp cards). And Fire Dance is incredible for when you fake out NS a Mikanko, they attempt to get rid of it, and you SS it back from the GY or hand. Mikanko Reflection Rondo is another great card, but I try to use it with Ohime the Manifested Mikanko or Mikanko Rivalry, respectively.
Speaking of Ohime, another great card that can also benefit you in several ways once obtained in the hand. You’re able to get her in three ways, being Diviner of the Herald, then sending Herald of the Arc Light, Preparation of Rites, or simply drawing. That’s how important she is to this deck, but not enough so that you’re out of plays if you don’t find a way to get her. As we don’t utilize Mikanko Kagura (though I’m contemplating adding it back, your choice), the only way to get her on the field is The Great Mikanko Ceremony. Once she’s on the field, she can equip any monster on the field with any Equip Spell from the grave. From Axe of Fools to Double-Edged Sword, and even Magicalized Duston Mop, and of course, any of your “Mikanko” Equips to negate destruction.

Additional Deck info
Your abundance of Kaijus and Lava Golems are great ways to get rid of troublesome monsters on your opponent’s field.
Diviner of the Herald, whether you decide to send Herald or Entity, will gain four extra levels, making it an Lvl6 that you can synchro with any of your Lvl3 Mikankos for great cards like Infernoble Knight Emperor Charles and Power Tool Braver Dragon. Power Tool can equip all of your needed Equip Spells from the Deck, then sacrifice itself so they’re all sent to the GY for use via Ohime.
Sometimes you come across opponents who think you need monsters for your deck to work. Boy, are they wrong, and with the right hand, you can make them pay big time.
All you need is Ohime the Manifested Mikanko, Double-Edged Sword, and a way to get to Mikanko Dance – Mayowashidori. With this method, I decided to use Ha-Re to grab Fire Dance (just in case my opponent has something up their sleeve), Ohime to grab Ceremoney, SS Ohime, then Hu-Li with Fire Dance Mikanko, go into Eria the Water Charmer, Gentle with Re and Li to send them both to the GY, banished Ceremony for Mayowashi, SS Hu-Li from GY with Mayo, equipped Double-Edge to Hu-Li, BP, hit once with Hu-Li resulting -4000, send Hu-Li back to the hand, resulting in both the Equip Spells going to GY, Ohime attacks, then chains a Equip of Double-Edge for another -4000.
While there are other variations you’ll come to learn and depending on your hand (like, for instance, if you use Interrupted Kaiju Slumber), the main idea is always to try to end the match on your turn, as while it can go first, it does 4x times better going second.
That’s it for this deck profile. Hope you enjoy!
