Welcome to the age of modern Yu-Gi-Oh! Monsters which can create a Synchro Summon with a single card (practically)! But, how can you utilize these powerful monsters to win your duels? Well, here’s a few tips on how to use and learn the minorly complicated Swordsoul Tenyi deck. Let’s start with the engines shall we?
Link: Swordsoul Tenyi Deck 2024
The Swordsoul Engine
Swordsoul of Mo Ye: By FAR the best Swordsoul Main deck monster. Its effect allows you to reveal one Swordsoul Card OR a wyrm monster to summon a Level 4 Tuner Token. Its Graveyard effect allows you to draw a card. This effect may not seem that good on face value but it can go into “Swordsoul Chixiao” for a +1 (Swordsoul Search) and a monster negate! Whilst it does gives away information to your opponent about your hand, its insane value is more than enough to compensate. Keep in mind it’s downside though if you for some reason can’t synchro summon with it.
Swordsoul Strategist Longyuan: Whilst all Swordsoul Main deck monsters are good, this one rivals “Swordsoul of Mo Ye”. Its effortless capability of going into a Synchro Level 10 like “Baronne De Fleur” or “Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign – Chengying” is brilliant, and its effect once Longyuan is used as a synchro material deals 1,200 burn damage. Which, surprisingly, can win you the game with the Tenyi engine. Keep in mind it’s downside though if you for some reason can’t synchro summon with it.
Swordsoul of Taia: Another Level 4 Swordsoul Main deck monster (Mo Ye being the other) which allows you to easily go into any level 8 Synchro monster. It’s effect to banish a card to summon the token can surprisingly pair well with “Tenyi Spirit – Adhara”, which can return your banished wyrm monsters to your hand. On the other hand, this card’s effect once it’s used as a synchro material allows you to send a swordsoul or wyrm monster from your deck to the graveyard. This can enable “Adamancipator Risen – Dragite” by sending Mo ye for a spell/trap card negate. Or you can send a Tenyi monster for its Graveyard effect.
The Swordsoul Engine – Continued
Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous: If you’ve played a Plant deck before like Rikka, Predaplant or Rose. You’ve most probably heard of a card called “Lonefire Blossom”, which allows you to tribute itself to summon ANY plant from your deck. Ecclesia on the other hand is the Swordsoul (Or Albaz but we don’t talk about that) variant of it, allowing you to tribute itself to summon any Swordsoul monster from your deck. It’s other effect allows an inherent (Not effect) special summon if your opponent controls more monsters than you. This can allow you to normal summon monsters like Mo Ye or Taia to get that additional Synchro monsters on the field. This is most likely the best main deck card in Swordsoul.
Swordsoul Emergence: This card is a spell card that allows you to add either one Swordsoul Card to your hand, OR if you control a Synchro Monster you can add ANY Wyrm monster from your deck to your hand. This can help you search that wyrm monster you need to activate “Swordsoul of Mo Ye” or the card you need to discard for “Swordsoul Strategist Longyuan”. This card also has a banish effect which is usable but doesn’t come up often. It can help you go into Level 7 or 9 Synchros by either increasing the level by 1 or decreasing them by 1.
Swordsoul Blackout: The one of trap. This card is very… iffy. It can help you remove a monster from your board to pop 2 cards. That’s about it sadly, however it works well, setting up the graveyard for the Tenyi Cards.
The Swordsoul Engine – Finally
Swordsoul Grandmaster – Chixiao: Moving onto the synchro monsters! This card is a level 8 Synchro monster that on summon allows you to add any “Swordsoul” monster from your deck to your hand. This works well with “Swordsoul of Mo Ye” to get a +1 and a free level 10 Synchro with “Swordsoul Strategist Longyuan.”! However, that isn’t all in the slightest. If you keep it on the field (you normally do) it has a quick effect to banish one Swordsoul card OR Wyrm monster from your Graveyard to negate a monster effect. Overall, this is your best Synchro extender for your deck.
Swordsoul Sinister Sovereign – Qixing Longyuan: The worst big guy for the deck. It’s a level 10 Synchro monster you can go into by using “Swordsoul Strategist Longyuan” with its token effect. This card in its lore is actually the betrayer of the swordsouls, being evident by how it can banish monsters to deal 1,200 burn damage! This works against Spells/Traps AND monsters. In the same turn! Which together with Longyuan’s initial burn damage, does 3,600 damage! It also acts as the T.G hyper librarian for Wyrms, making it so every time you Synchro Summon another wyrm monster while this card is on field, you can just… draw a card! However, this is still the worst Level 10 Synchro monster out of the Swordsoul level 10’s.
Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign – Chengying: The final Swordsoul monster card, and undoubtedly the strongest. This level 10 Synchro monster has protection against card effects, banishment and very high attack! It serves as the ‘Tower’ for Swordsoul, acting as its final boss. Hard to remove, overwhelming attack and incredible synergy. It’s effect to banish a card on field and your opponent’s graveyard is incredibly strong, especially since you can trigger it with any Tenyi or even “Swordsoul of Taia.”! This card is also seen in other decks as it’s a generic Level 10 Synchro, and arguably the better Swordsoul level 10 Synchro.
The Tenyi Engine
Whew! Now that’s a lot of information at once for the Swordsoul Engine! Now, here’s when the REAL synergy comes in. Keep in mind, if you don’t understand the deck at first it has a high learning curve! The only way is up when you start learning Swordsoul! Now, let’s get onto the weird Tenyi engine… KEEP IN MIND ALL TENYI MONSTERS (Main deck) HAVE THE FOLLOWING EFFECT: “If you control no Effect monsters, you can special summon this card.”
Tenyi Spirit – Ashuna: Level 7 Wyrm Light monster with the same effect as every Tenyi (above paragraph), however the unique effect this one has is to summon another Tenyi from your deck, if you control a non effect monster (Most likely a token) however this locks you into summoning Wyrm monsters for the rest of the turn. So it’s normally better to do it after you’ve got “Baronne de Fleur” out or another non-wym monster you want.
Tenyi Spirit – Vishuda: Level 7 Wyrm Dark monster with the same effect as every Tenyi (above paragraph), with the effect to return a card on the field to the hand if you control a non-effect monster. It’s very nice removal to set up and doesn’t lock you into anything.
Tenyi Spirit – Shthana: Level 4 Wyrm Water monster with the same effect as every Tenyi (above paragraph), this card is very iffy so you can choose to run it or not. It helps you recover if your ‘Monk of the Tenyi’ or Token gets destroyed and then destroys a card your opponent controls. In my opinion it’s very circumstantial.
The Tenyi Engine – Continued
Tenyi Spirit – Adhara: Level 1 Wyrm Tuner Water monster with the same effect as every Tenyi (above paragraph), to return a banished wyrm monster to your hand. It’s very nice when you get to add back Mo Ye or Longyuan however you have to be careful about what you banish if you recover it.
Heavenly Dragon Circle: A nice escape to get away from cards like Infinite Impermanence and Effect Veiler which can get you a 0 in card amount however letting you add a wyrm monster and a Tenyi. Normally works best if you tribute a Tenyi monster.
Monk of the Tenyi: The Link 1 Tenyi monster that only needs 1 non link Tenyi card. It has no effect which allows you access to every Tenyi card in your graveyard, a must have for Tenyi engine.
Shaman of the Tenyi: The Link 2 Tenyi card lets you discard 1 to revive a Wyrm monster from your Graveyard. Other than that, its other effects is terrible but can work if you attack with Monk or a token.
Draco Berserker of the Tenyi: The final Tenyi card! The level 8 generic Synchro with Tenyi’s, having a quick effect to banish any opponent’s monster which activated their effect (OTP). And a good OTK effect to attack twice and gain attack. You can make this with Taia, Mo Ye, or Adhara/Ashuna + Adhara.
Not Engine
Other than the Tenyi and Swordsoul cards, these cards are pretty self explanatory, disrupting your opponent or enabling counter play while using this Swordsoul Tenyi deck.
The Main Combo(S) – Swordsoul Tenyi Deck
This would be the main Swordsoul combo, you would need a Mo Ye (or Ecclesia or Emergence) + any wyrm monsterb (2 Cards):
- Normal Summon Mo Ye revealing the wyrm monster to summon the token.
- Synchro summon Chixiao to add a swordsoul Card and draw 1. (Add Longyuan or Taia, depending on your hand)
- Longyuan Discards the Wyrm monster that was previously revealed to summon itself and a token.
- Synchro Summon any level 10 monster you want (Preferably Chengyieng or Baronne)
And that’s the entire Swordsoul combo by itself! Your end board being Chixiao + Chengyieng or Baronne ending up with a minimum of 2 interruptions. Now time for the Tenyi combo!
For the main Tenyi combo you would need only Tenyi Spirit – Ashuna in your hand (1 Card):
- Special Summon Ashuna
- Link summon into Monk
- Activate Ashuna in graveyard to banish itself and summon Adhara.
- Use Adhara and Monk to go into Shaman.
Now that’s all! Now go dominate players using your Swordsoul Tenyi deck! Whether it be competitive or Casual, or even Roleplay decks (Personally I got my Swordsman called Brooke Joongoo :D) it can compete anywhere, good luck!
