Spell cards are one of the most versatile and useful resources in Yugioh! Understanding these cards is essential to mastering the game! And when it comes to Spell cards, there are several different types of cards including Normal Spells, Continuous Spells, Quick Play Spells, and Field Spells! But, what is a Field Spell? Field Spells are a unique type of Spell card. Let’s explore this type of Spell and see how they work!

How They work

A Field Spell is recognized by the cross (+) symbol under the card name. These cards are unique for a few reasons. One, instead of activating these cards in the Spell and Trap Zones like other Spell Cards, a Field Spell is activated in the Field Spell Zone. Each player only has one Field Spell Zone that they can use, and can only have one Field Spell active at one time each. The Field Spell Zone is located above the Extra Deck. Field Spells can be set, like other Spells, but they can only be set or activated in the Field Spell Zone.

Card Effects

The effects of Field Spell cards affect the entire Field, not just your side of the Field. This means, any effect that a Field Spell has is also available to your opponent. For example, the effects of cards like The Sanctuary in the Sky, Umi, and Lost World apply to both player’s side of the Field. Likewise, if a Field Spell has an effect that can be activated or triggered, like Chicken Game, Mausoleum of the Emperor, or Amazoness Village, your opponent can also activate or trigger those effects. So be careful!

Archetypes

There are many generic Field Spell Cards out there for player’s to use, but there are also some archetypes that focus on Field Spells, use Field Spells are part of their strategy, and even center around a specific Field Spell. Some of these archetypes are Triamid, Planetary Agents, Parshath, Gravekeepers, Yummy, Madolche, Dream Mirror, F. A., Stromberg, Ashened and more! Try out these archetypes, and Field Spells today!
