Imagine having a round-long Pot of Greed and Double Summon, with the only drawback being you can’t use monster effects from the hand. Yep, that’s pretty much this card, and it’s insane for Control Decks that utilize just that, Normal Summons without the use of Hand Traps and other cards like Evenly Matched. Because why bother… I’m in control of the entire field anyway?
I’m currently very fond of my Umi Banish-Control Deck, and I find a card like Morganite to be able to take it to the next level. My deck uses Pacifis, the Phantasm City, to continually control a Phantasm Token on the field while also gathering Phantasm Spiral cards along the way. Along with the usual “Control Deck” picks like, Skill Drain, Rivalry of Warlords, and Macro Cosmos, it can get kind of absurd with the things I can get away with. Cards like Heat Wave and Lava Golem allow me to eliminate potential and future threats, so I have no issue going second with a deck that runs 40 cards exactly.
However, my only gripe with the deck is that it runs Megalosmasher X, a respectable choice since it’s a Normal Monster, Level 4, and a Water type, so cards like Gozen Match don’t interfere with Phantasm’s Special Summoning Token effect. Anyway, the fact that Phantasm is also Umi means that I could utilize the rest of the archetype; Cards like Ocean Dragon Lord – Kairyu-Shin could be of great use. You may be thinking, but it’s an Effect Monster; how would you use your Phantasm cards?
Well, that’s just the thing, with a powerful effect like Kairyu-Shin on the field, they’d have to get rid of them first, then focus on the Phantasm-Banish engine altogether. Supposedly, if I grab a Level-7 with Fish Sonar and use Morganite, I’m able to not only Normal Summon for City’s effect, but I’m also able to get Kairyu-Shin on the field. And if they ever try to get rid of Kairyu, then Phantasm’s effect will proc, and I’ll get a free Phantasm Card once the Token is Summoned. It would work brilliantly if I do say so myself.
The decklist is below if you’d like to test it out yourself. It’s also free on the Dueling Nexus Deck Sharing Collage, so you can check for it there. Those are my thoughts on the incredible new cards coming out, and I can’t wait to write more when the deck is finished.
Happy Dueling!
